Our first time to Olympic Field (WA45) on June 20-21 was a great success! Amy and Sam invited us, as Ryan and Marianne, the owners of the field, are their friends from when Amy lived on the Peninsula.
Held the 3rd weekend in June, this fly-in has it all- BBQ, pot luck, bluegrass bands, camping, and more! Ryan said 37 aircraft visited this year.
Field amenities include a 2700-foot grass runway, a 2500-foot water runway, an A-frame for overnight stays, shower, toilet, charging station and other infrastructure installed by the Recreational Airplabne Foundation (RAF). In addition, a courtesy car and a tiny house AirBnB is available! wow!!
We flew in the 1975 Cessna 172 N738EP and left Mr PUPS at home since dogs and runways don’t mix.
Weather was perfect. We saw the Boiler Room String Band, a bunch of young and very talented musicians, and the Jefferson County Bluegrass Boys. After everyone left we hung out at Ryan and Marianne’s until late before we retired to our tent in the woods. Not in a hurry, the next day we helped pack away the amenities. What a great weekend!!
