The Highwomen and Tanya Tucker at The Gorge, June 2023

On June 11th we went to see my 3rd show at The Gorge amphitheater; The Highwomen and Tanya Tucker. This was the third day of a Brandi Carlisle mini festival, replete with one of Joni Mitchell’s first performances in over 20 years, Annie Lennox, Lucius, and Marcus Mumford.

This was my second time seeing Brandi Carlisle at The Gorge, and her performances are phenomenal. Brandi is sure to end up in both the Rock and Roll and Country Music Halls of Fame!

The Highwomen are a supergroup comprised of Brandi Carlisle, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires. Honorary Highwomen include Sheryl Crow, Britney Spencer, and Yola. Britney performed with the group during this show, as did guest Allison Russell.

The band name pays homage to The Highwaymen supergroup comprised of Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. If you don’t know The Highwomen, start with the penultimate song below!

This year we got to be guided by Katt’s good friend and Gorge veteran Annie. She led us to the best parking and lawn spot ever!

Tanya Tucker also has had her career revived with Brandi’s help. She delivered a solid performance! Tanya was child star, one of very few to go on to become successful as an adult. She was popular when I was in High School, back when I didn’t like country music.
