Hoosier Hill, IN, US Highpoint #10, 26 February 2004

Hoosier Hill, Indiana lies at 1,257 feet MSL and is ranked #44 in elevation among US Highpoints. This would be my 7th highpoint of 2004. At this point I had retreated from the east coast and spent a couple weeks with my brother Kevin in Columbia, Missouri. A bit lost, I didn’t want to return to Montana yet but knew I wasn’t moving to Missouri permanently, either.

Prior to leaving the east coast I had arranged to meet up with Kelly Hill in Providence, RI and instead of canceling the trip, I simply drove back to New England and hit up IN and OH on the way, taking the side roads when possible.

Hoosier Hill is next to a cornfield and very near the gravel road. In the years since I was there the site has become much more developed, and this was one of those highpoints that save for the adequate demarcations, it is hard to decide if you’re really on the highpoint or not.

The fascinating highest point in Indiana.
This style that crosses the fence and has a “donated by the Highpointer’s Club” marking on it was about the only evidence I had that this was the actual highpoint.
February in Indiana looking at cornfields from the high point.
If you squint, you can see the Hoosier high point in the trees on the left side of the road.

From here I would head to Campbell Hill Ohio
