Small Towns: Odessa, Washington

Odessa is a small town of 896 in central Washington that may be best known for its Deutschesfest thanks to the Volga Germans that moved here a century ago and named it after Odessa, Ukraine. According to the Odessa Wikipedia page, one of the highlights is Polka music is provided by the Oom Pas and Mas, composed of lederhosen-wearing local musicians!

This monument was placed in 1970s to highlight the businesses in Odessa. Barely visible beyond the handrail is a large piece of basalt that was washed into the local coulee by the Glacial Lake Missoula floods that formed the channeled scablands
