Spruce Knob, WV, US Highpoint #16, 9 March 2004

Spruce Knob, West Virginia lies at 4,863 feet MSL and is ranked #24 in elevation among US Highpoints. This would be my 13th highpoint of 2004. This was a memorable trip because I got to drive unplowed snowy roads for miles and miles before I got to the parking lot where I slept in my Subaru. It was an icy, snowy day on the Knob and the start of another very busy day.

The highpoint is another drive up in the Monongahela National Forest with a small lookout platform. Sadly the weather precluded great views but the winter weather is always welcome.

My room for the evening. Check out the snow packed into the wheels!
My absolutely gorgeous, if not white-knuckly at times, commute! Love the snowy deciduous woods!
Snowy parking lot makes for good donuts

This pile of rocks visually looked like the high point.

This photo is labeled “Judy Gap” but I don’t remember anything about this.
I’m guessing this is Spruce Knob but once again I don’t remember anything about this photo.

From here I would spend the next day traveling and go to Mount Rogers, Virginia on the 10th.

Blue Grass, VA

I couldn’t pass up the chance to drive through a town called Blue Grass!!

  1. So pretty!

It’s a good thing there aren’t speed limits at bluegrass shows – the mando player would always get a ticket! 😆
